[It takes Peter a day to figure out how he wants to reply to this. He wasn't kidding when he wrote on the bulletin board that he wanted a screw, but he hadn't expected anyone to take him up on it. He really hadn't expected Bertie, of all people, to write him a long goddamn letter confessing his unrequited love or lust or whatever he's on about.
But it's something to consider, isn't it? He's never cared for men so much as he does women, but never let it be said Peter Vincent is shy about sex in any form. Trouble is, Bertie has a point about the fiance thing; Peter might not've minded being a homewrecker in another life, but it'd be a real bitch to be stuck living practically next door to a man after screwing his husband-to-be -- and he likes Ienzo, to boot.]
Bertie,
Color me flattered, but you can't just send someone a letter like that if you're not going to follow through, tip your hat to honor, whatever you want to call it. I don't know what's going on in that household of yours and I don't care, but you'd better figure out exactly what it is you want here before you start telling a man you've been noticing him. I'm not above a quick fuck, you should know that, but maybe think about your priorities and your husband or whatever.
[Think about his priorities? Bertie was trying to let the man down gently, and he gets a finger wagged at him for responding with some sympathy? Well!]
Peter,
I've been thinking about him, thank you very much. And I've been thinking about what he might say if he saw these letters. Some lovesick sap confessing his feelings, and the bird being confessed to having a firmish word with him. I think I might well have him look at this next letter if it's not settled off.
He'd be all for the tact, mind. I'm absolutely sure of it. A q.f. certainly isn't on the agenda. Not if Ienzo or young Bertram have a say in it. Do set your sights a bit higher, man.
[What. Peter can't be reading this right, because what he thinks Bertie's suggesting...goddamn. This has to be a joke. This has gone far enough and weird enough that it can't be real...but he'll give Bertie the benefit of the doubt just one last time.]
Bertie,
If that's how things are, he's welcome to join in. You're not about to scare me off.
[Never let it be said that Bertie is one to shrink from a challenge. Peter seems to be intent on meeting him for it.]
Peter,
I'm entirely the sort! We Woosters have been the sort since Agincourt. If you're really not scared off, when why don't you come over for dinner tomorrow night. We can talk about this like men properly should.
